Testing out the UK’s Electric Vehicle infrastructure

Given the increasing amount of work we are doing in the EV and mobility space we thought it was worth trying out the UK’s EV infrastructure first hand.
You never really understand any area until you ‘live’ it. And a round trip between London and Manchester in a first gen Nissan Leaf with an 80 mile range felt just the ticket.
Duncan wanted an insightful experience, but it turned out we got a rite of passage. He now understands range anxiety, the completely unreliable service, the plethora of baffling apps – frankly, the ‘wild west’ that is the current picture in the UK.

The launchpad for this whole area of interest was our work leading the Levelling Up Fund bid the Open Lines, a new active transport arc through Medway to act as an economic gamechanger. This really showed us first-hand how much innovation is going on that will shape the future of mobility.
In September and October 2022:
We presented at the British Embassy Smart Cities showcase at Oslo Innovation Week alongside some of the UK and Norway’s most exciting tech startups such as Augment City, the UK’s Deputy Ambassador to Norway and Invest in Newcastle.
We facilitated a session at the Blue Earth Summit that focussed on the Future of Transport and Energy Systems with micromobility pioneers Voi Technology, West of England Combined Authority and Jon Burke, formerly Cabinet Member for Transport and the Environment at LB Hackney, which you can read about here.
We hosted a panel looking at the Future of Mobility at the Norway-UK Opportunities conference, that focussed on EV infrastructure and the transition away from petrol cars with the Design Council, LB Hackney, DNV and Zaptec (blog post coming soon).
We are available to help local authorities prepare for the Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) fund coming in 2023, so please get in touch.
